Around 2010, Adega Vale d’Algares, then the latest owner of a 120-year-old winery in the heart of Vila Chã de Ourique, Cartaxo (district of Santarém), was facing difficult times. Just over 10 years ago, the brand permanently closed its doors. Left behind were extensive buildings (including the historic winery, fully renovated in 2007), as well as hectares of vineyards left abandoned.
